MANUFACTURERS OF FURNITURE IN VIETNAM

Vietnam’s furniture industry has grown leaps and bounds in recent times, even during the last couple of quarters of the pandemic in 2020, the country clocked impressive growth numbers, a good reason for this growth is due to the fact (contentious) that a bulk of the firms have moved out of China due to on-going trade wars making business partnerships risky, expensive and unsustainable.

In light of this trend, Vietnam has turned out to be a great alternative for furniture wholesalers, suppliers, distributors, and retailers seeking furniture made at a low cost. The fact that multiple species of wood fit for furniture manufacturing grow across Vietnam, low labor costs, and the proximity to China has allowed the indigenous manufacturing industry to boom in recent years.

Vietnam is primarily known for wooden furniture, species like Acacia, which is also grown in abundance throughout South Asia & Africa is the default wood species used for making furniture throughout Vietnam. Although Acacia wood may not be the best species to consider while importing furniture, it does get the job done & it does suffice for most uses.

HANDCRAFTED FURNITURE FROM VIETNAM

As far as the craftsmanship is concerned, Vietnam has only recently seen steady growth, the artisans are mostly 2nd generation or maybe 3rd generation.

They do quite well for furniture that involves intricate carvings and skill but if you’re looking for proper reproduction style furniture, furniture with ornamentation & you’re keen on the best quality of craftsmanship, you may want to explore alternatives in Indonesia & India where manufacturers have employed craftsmen who hail from families who’ve been in the business since 5-6 generations and brought them up to speed with modern technologies, advanced machinery & contemporary designs like mid-century modern, provincial French & modern oriental designs.

If you’re on the hunt for sturdy, well-made solid wood furniture, outdoor-grade furniture, furniture in engineered wood in antique as well as contemporary makes. We at FurnitureRoots have the perfect solution even for lower MOQs and we provide convenient sampling options to furniture wholesalers, retailers, and suppliers globally.

HOW CAN OUR MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS HELP?

There are a few variables that make Vietnam an excellent destination for sourcing furniture for your commercial & reselling requirements. Moreover, certain types, for instance; wooden furniture, turned wood handicrafts, and intricately carved and/or inlaid furniture are the best furniture

Availability of a wide-rage of sustainable solid wood like Rubberwood, Acacia & Cajuput and a much lower cost for technically skilled labor makes for the most attractive value proposition for a potential importer/procurer.

At FurnitureRoots, we offer you pretty much the same set of advantages along with several other advantages as well. Being a manufacturer from India (Jodhpur), access to a low-cost, highly skilled & well-trained workforce as well access to some of the best quality solid natural wood (like solid Mangowood, Acacia & Rosewood) are all privileges we enjoy due to our off-shore manufacturing, the benefits of which we directly transfer to our wholesale partners.

    TOP FURNITURE MANUFACTURERS IN VIETNAM

Anyway, without further ado, we list out 6 of the leading manufacturers as objectively as possible by including both large manufacturers and small boutique suppliers as well. Although most of these are quite hesitant to forge new partnerships and are quite selective when it comes to working with foreign brands.

    Kaiser Furniture

    KAISER FURNITURE

A company started in 2004, Kaiser furniture has a massive industrial complex with 200,000 sq ft of dedicated factory area for supplying its furniture to businesses globally. Although the United States remains its largest market, the company does have a strong presence in several other countries, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Australia, and Canada to name a few.

Due to the sheer size of its manufacturing unit, landing a meeting for a potential partnership can be quite the ordeal, unless you’re a large retailer with a strong footprint in your local country.

    HOANG MOC FURNITURE

A relatively small exporter of wooden furniture that mainly caters to the requirements of residential projects. Acacia-based wooden furniture is the company’s specialty and a slew of several designs are pioneered by the company in-house. The company HQ is based in Ho Chi Minh City.

Given the relatively small size of the company, setting up a meeting will not difficult but Vietnam is not known for fluent English speakers so you may have a problem. But with the world getting closer, this seems like a fixable issue. The company sells even for relatively small container sizes.

    FURAKA FURNITURE

Another boutique manufacturing supplier from Vietnam, Furaka is based in Ho Chi Minh city. The company undertakes turnkey operations for commercial office and hospitality projects. Rocking chairs, outdoor patio furniture, and outdoor-grade solid wood furniture are some of the most important.

Like the previous feature, Furaka is also a relatively small supplier but also one that will accept monthly orders of 5 containers or more, which is a lot less than the larger players here.

    DEWBERRY FURNITURE

If we have to list a manufacturer that is somewhere in the middle of being a large manufacturer and a boutique supplier of specialty designs with professional management with a great deal of global exposure, DewBerry would be it.

The company understands modern marketing initiatives and also has a fluent English-speaking team with all business processes & verification policies in place for a seamless order process.

Unfortunately, we have not been privy enough to know any more details about their pricing and their designs. Setting up a meeting can be difficult and they can be a bit fastidious when it comes to working with an unknown buyer, but by all means, do try reaching out to them

    Tran Duc Furnishings

    TRAN DUC FURNISHINGS

A company that began in the 2000s and began with high-quality furnishings for residential use locally in Vietnam that eventually turned into an export house. After roughly a decade or so, the company eventually moved away from the residential market and over the course of another half a decade completely evolved into an FF&E specialist with a range of hospitality businesses and established hotel brands under its belt.

The company employs >1,000 personnel & Hyatt, Hilton, Sheraton, Victoria are only a few of the names under its belt. If you’re building out a small hotel (>100 rooms), you’re unlikely to have luck working with them. But do read more towards the bottom of this page if you’re looking for hotel or restaurant furniture solutions in bulk.

    DISTRICT 8

While the name may sound like the title of a live-action sci-fi film, district 8 is a renowned upstart manufacturer in Vietnam.

Specializing in “themed” furniture, the company has taken cues from Art-deco, Industrial era design, and provincial design and added a modern, contemporary twist to them.

If you’re someone looking for generic furniture for further reselling, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you frequently see customers visit for offbeat, themed, and niche furniture styles, you’re probably better off with any of the other manufacturers we’ve listed here.

    SAN LIM FURNITURE COMPANY LIMITED

One of the larger furniture companies in Vietnam, San Lim furniture has been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest names in the furniture business from the west.

Like most of the other manufacturers from Vietnam, their specialty is in wooden furniture and fabric upholstery but their main selling point is their adaptation of western designs like Scandinavian, contemporary, mid-century, industrial, and baroque designs

Casegoods, bedroom furniture, laz-boys, recliners, and bedframes are among their highest selling items but unless your MOQs are high enough to warrant their attention, its difficult to establish an on-going trade relationship with them

    FURNITURE MADE IN VIETNAM

Handmade wooden furniture tends to be the staple export from Vietnam, however, in recent times, medium to large-sized factories have witnessed increased adoption of low-medium tech mass manufacturing machinery, techniques and processes.

To keep up with the evolving demand, modern wooden fabricating techniques, processes and materials have also been adopted. MDF (medium density fibre) is a prime example of wooden furniture that has grown leaps and bounds in recent years.

A burgeoning textile industry that, in itself, is known for a range of exports to western, middle-eastern and African countries is a boon to the furniture industry and complements the upholstered furniture and luxury handcrafted furniture industry in Vietnam

    WOOD SPECIES USED

While there is plenty of controversy surrounding the wood types used and this also varies wildly dependig on the manufacturer you contact. These are 2-3 wood species that are used to make fittings & furniture which you will definitely find in Vietnam.

Besides this, contract manufacturers of furniture also undertake custom manufacturing operations from off-shore distributors and suppliers, several such wholesalers, architects, interior designers and vendors supply specific wood types that are exported to Vietnam and then turned into the desired designs

Here’s are 3 wood species that you’ll certainly find in Vietnam

    ACACIA

Hot and humid conditions are a great environment for Acacia wood to thrive and grow in plenty. India, Indonesia and Vietnam, all of these countries see Acacia grown in plenty & they make for a great alternative to teakwood which is much more expensive.

    ROSEWOOD

Not to be confused with ‘Sheesham” or “Indian Rosewood“, the rosewood used in Vietnam is Siamese rosewood and makes its way into the country from neighboring regions of Cambodia & Laos

Although technically these are illegally imported into Vietnam, they’re quite openly sold by most manufacturers to vendors who show a keen interest.

    RUBBERWOOD

Rubber is tapped in almost every corner of Vietnam and rubber + rubber derivatives form some of its largest exports. Rubberwood is also a “solid hardwood” that has a great propensity for being shaped into durable furniture pieces.

It is probably the second most common wood species used for furniture made in Vietnam.

    BAMBOO

Although technically not a wood species as bamboo is classified as grass, manufacturers in Vietnam use bamboo for making furniture extensively. Rope weaving techniques are used to make furniture that can be used in the outdoors and a huge portion of bamboo furniture is sold to “hospitality businesses” globally as they make for great outdoor settings globally

    MANUFACTURING HUBS IN VIETNAM

As with most manufacturing powerhouses in the world that house several manufacturers of a specific industry and all its allied industries nearby like the Yangtze river delta factory in China, Jodhpur in India; Vietnam also has a few pockets of industrialized areas that house a great many furniture manufacturers and all their allied industries.

    • Binh Dinh, near Ho Chi Minh City [Southern Vietnam]
    • Tuyen Quang – Located Further Northeast & bordering China
    • Quang Nam In the Heartland

To the benefit of most tourists and procurement specialists globally, Ho-Chi-Minh which is also the capital city and the most well-known city in Vietnam and its surrounding areas house more than half of the most manufacturers and unless you’re looking for a specific type of furniture that requires niche expertise, most of your needs will be taken care of here itself.

MOST POPULAR FURNITURE TYPES SOLD IN VIETNAM

Like with most other countries, Vietnam has also has certain specializations that the country is known for and certain furniture styles that are best procured from elsewhere. We’ll briefly cover the furniture styles and pieces they’re known for and the alternatives you can consider for importing each of them

    BEDROOM FURNITURE

The bedroom furniture segment remains the most popular in Vietnam, home furniture, in general, is a growing sector and the country is not particularly well-known for selling to commercial businesses.

Most of the design ranges are standardized and companies rarely venture into customizing pieces, but scale manufacturing of familiar designs is well within their expertise.

Due to expertise in working wooden furniture ;bedframes, casegoods, wardrobes, tallboys, closets, upholstered armchairs, small sectionals, nightstands and dining sets are all easily available.

    HIGH-END, ANTIQUE WOODEN FURNITURE

Even before the trade-wars and the rise of other southeast Asian countries in the furniture manufacturing scene, Vietnam had a robust manufacturing backbone supported by its indigenous Handicraft industry.

Wood was always available in plenty and the supply of skilled labor has been growing steadily.

Additional FDI investments from major off-shore companies into Vietnam the imports of skills, capabilities, and machinery has only accelerated the further growth of Vietnam’s handcrafting industry.

If you’re looking at importing hand-made furniture in vintage reproduction styles, furniture with ornate carvings, inlaid styles, and flamboyant curves, then this is the country to consider for your furniture requirement.

Only Phillippines & India can match the pricing and quality for these specific furniture styles. India has a much more entrenched legacy and you can expect a higher quality of carved wood, antique reproduction & hand-made rustic designs but expect to pay slightly higher prices too.
