ACACIA

Hot and humid conditions are a great environment for Acacia wood to thrive and grow in plenty. India, Indonesia and Vietnam, all of these countries see Acacia grown in plenty & they make for a great alternative to teakwood which is much more expensive.  

ROSEWOOD

Not to be confused with ‘Sheesham” or “Indian Rosewood“, the rosewood used in Vietnam is Siamese rosewood and makes its way into the country from neighboring regions of Cambodia & Laos

Although technically these are illegally imported into Vietnam, they’re quite openly sold by most manufacturers to vendors who show a keen interest. 

RUBBERWOOD

Rubber is tapped in almost every corner of Vietnam and rubber + rubber derivatives form some of its largest exports. Rubberwood is also a “solid hardwood” that has a great propensity for being shaped into durable furniture pieces.

It is probably the second most common wood species used for furniture made in Vietnam.

BAMBOO

Although technically not a wood species as bamboo is classified as grass, manufacturers in Vietnam use bamboo for making furniture extensively. Rope weaving techniques are used to make furniture that can be used in the outdoors and a huge portion of bamboo furniture is sold to “hospitality businesses” globally as they make for great outdoor settings globally

Even before the trade-wars and the rise of other southeast Asian countries in the furniture manufacturing scene, Vietnam had a robust manufacturing backbone supported by its indigenous Handicraft industry.

Wood was always available in plenty and the supply of skilled labor has been growing steadily.

Additional FDI investments from major off-shore companies into Vietnam the imports of skills, capabilities, and machinery has only accelerated the further growth of Vietnam’s handcrafting industry.
