The classification of furniture & fixture designs are mainly by way of the period in which the design was first adopted, baptized, or made widely available. Of course, there are umpteen examples of furniture designs classified by their materials and their country of origin, but in no other industry is the trend of naming a particular product style by “the period of origin” as prevalent as it is in the case of the furniture industry.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mid-century furniture is a style that was first coined in the United States but like everything else American during that era, the cues were heavily influenced by Scandinavian, German & generally, by European design. Typically, mid-century furniture design refers to the peculiar styling elements right after World War 2. However, you can also get away with bucketing furniture styles from a couple of decades ago. We’ll get to that later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mid century design is essentially a design that emerged during the mid-1900s, due to the dilapidated conditions of most economies in post-war era, extravagant furniture with carvings and ornamentation was not feasible. So under the pretext of using fewer materials but building the frame intelligently (as a cost-saving measure), the mid-century design was conceived.
